***OUR CONGREGATION IN
FELLOWSHIP, THE LORD WILLING***
BAPTISM: The consistory granted the request of Aric and Rachel Bleyenberg for the baptism of their
daughter, Sarah Claire. The sacrament will be administered next Sunday morning,
with Rev. Van Baren administering the sacrament. May
the Lord continue to fulfill His promise to continue His covenant in the line
of continued generations.
THE ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING is scheduled for May 21 at 7:30 PM. The following men have been nominated for
Elder of which three are chosen: Dale Bartelds, Joel Dykstra, Ken Elzinga,
Terry Kamminga, Larry Looyenga
and Dan Van Dyke. The following have
been nominated for Deacon of which two are to be chosen: Kyle Bruinooge,
Phil Doezema, Jim Hauck and Todd Overbeek.
*OUR CHURCH FAMILY*
Our
congregation’s deepest sympathies are extended to the Carol Miedema family. God delivered her from the bondage of this
life and brought her into glorious liberty. As we rejoice with her, we grieve
with Kathy and Duane Mingerink, Karli,
Chad and Katie, Kurt and Ciri, and with Sid and Lisa,
Jordan, Jeremy, Lynnae, and Laura. We pray that the
Lord will abundantly comfort them and us with the knowledge that He will be
with us and never forsake us.
Thank you so
much for the cards, baked goods, meals, and gifts we received after the
birth of Sarah. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us by
our church family. "We give thanks to God always for you all, making
mention of you in our prayers" I Thess. 1:2 Aric
and Rachel Bleyenberg and family
*2008 YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONVENTION*
The Steering Committee will meet next Sunday evening,
May 18.
Attention Young People: The registration deadline for the 2008 Young People’s
Convention is this week Thursday, May 15, so please send in your registration
forms A.S.A.P. If you are planning to attend this year’s convention, we must
have all forms in by May 15. We look
forward to seeing you there!
The Young
People will meet briefly next Sunday morning, May 18 after the worship
service for a group photo to be printed in the convention booklet.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY CAMPOUT: We are looking forward to the campout
on May 23-24. We will be leaving church at 6:00pm Friday and returning at
noon on Saturday. All campers need to have a signed Medical Release Form
along. There is also a sign up sheet in the fellowship hall for food donation
if you would like to help out. Thank you so much for your help!
FROM THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE:
On June 22, after the evening service, you are invited to stay for a
short program featuring numbers from our own congregation. These numbers may be
instrumental, vocal, delivered from young to old. If you have a request, please
slip it into Marisue Overbeek
or Pamela Kaptein's mail slot. There will be 20 minutes in between our
evening service and the program for refreshments.
*CHURCH NEWS*
Classis East holds
one of its regular meeting this Wednesday at our
Holland church. Delegated from our consistory are Elder Bob Velting
and Pastor Van Overloop. On the agenda is the request
for the organization of a new congregation (a daughter church of Faith), some
protests of Classis’ decisions, an appeal from a member against their
consistory, and a consistory requesting approval for the release of their
pastor.
Rev.
Doug Kuiper (Randolph, WI) is considering the
call to be the first pastor of Calvary PRC (Hull, IA). Rev. W. Langerak (Southeast, GR) is giving consideration to the
call from Doon PRC to serve as pastor for the Berean
PRC of the Philippines. As a part of his consideration he plans to travel to
the Philippines with Rev. A. Spriensma, leaving
tomorrow. They plan to preach, administer the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper,
visit the church extension work in Gabaldon, and meet
with the Bastion of Truth Reformed Church pastors. After ten days, Rev. Spriensma will return and Rev. Langerak’s
wife, Karen, will join him until May 28.
Rev.
K. Koole (Grandville) and Rev. C. Haak
(Georgetown) are planning to return tomorrow from their visit with the saints
of Covenant Evangelical Reformed Church in Singapore.
MYANMAR - From the Council of Hope
PRC (Grand Rapids,
MI): As you know from news reports in this past week, a devastating
cyclone has struck the country of Myanmar. The Yangon congregation
of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly
hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families
had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home
damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no
electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.
The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in
Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM this past week and is keeping
in close contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to
be sent as the situation unfolds. We commit the needs of the saints in
Myanmar to our Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect
will.
