Meditation: “It would not be
enough that the Gospel be preached and that by this God might be known in all
the world, unless this doctrine had more and more power to touch hearts to the
quick and to draw men into obedience. That is also why the Holy Spirit came as
tongues like as of fire. For in the first place we need to be purged, since
there are only corruption and filth in us. If one scans all our affections and
desires, he will find that there is stench everywhere. We have to be made over,
and God must purge us in a strange fashion. Then, on the other hand, we are as
cold as we could be. We need, then, to be set on fire with the love of God. Instead
of being all wrapped up in the things of earth, he must raise us on high, which
He does by means of His Word (John Calvin).”
The Reformed Witness Hour message, “The Daughter of Sarah” – 1Peter 3:3-4
will be heard today at
8am on WFUR 102.9 FM and at 4pm on WFUR 1570 AM.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
~This evening is a preparatory service
with a view to the administration of the Lord’s Supper next Sunday AM.
~Our pastor and Rev. Spriensma
leave for the Philippines tomorrow. Besides preaching for the Berean Prot. Ref. Church, they plan to celebrate the
Lord’s Supper there, visit church extension contacts in Gabaldon,
and meet with pastors from the Bastion of Truth Reformed Church. Rev. Spriensma will stay for 10 days, at which time Karen will
join Rev. Langerak until May 29 when they return.
~The Fellowship Committee has
scheduled a Song Service with a light supper following it for after the evening
worship service on May 18. If you are willing to bring a salad, cookies
or bars, please sign up either in the basement or the narthex. Those
willing to help with other preparations or clean-up may contact Judy Schimmel.
~Rev. Langerak and Karen
express their deep appreciation for the many cards and
other expressions of sympathy regarding the death of each of their grandmothers
recently. As many reminded us, “Death is swallowed up in victory…thanks be to
God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ” (1Cor. 15:54-57).
~Faye Korhorn would like to
thank the congregation for your cards,
notes of encouragement, and prayers during the time of my recent surgery. "Thou wilt shew
me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand
there are pleasures for evermore."

DENOMINATIONAL
ANNOUNCEMENTS
~From
the Council of Hope PRC: As you know from news reports, a devastating cyclone has struck
the country of Myanmar. The Yangon congregation of the
Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly
hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families
had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home
damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no
electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.
The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in
Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM and is keeping in close
contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to be sent as
the situation unfolds. We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to
our Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect will.
