A warm welcome is extended to all who join with us in worship today!

The Order of our Worship can be found on the back of each bulletin.

Cassettes and compact discs of each sermon are available.

Reformed Witness Hour:  Tune in to WYLL, AM (1160) every Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

Today: The Daughter of Sarah--I Peter 3: 3-4

Next week: I Will Pour Our My Spirit Upon Your Sons and Daughters--Isaiah 44: 3-5

This week at Bethel:

Tuesday: Elders Meurer and Moore will conduct family visitation with the Steins and the Poortingas.

Thursday: Evangelism Committee Meeting, 7:30 p.m.

*Aid to Myanmar: The benevolent collections taken up this morning and next Sunday will be sent to Hope PRC (see note from Hope Council) so that our congregation can express her love and concern for the saints who are in deep waters at this time. Let us give sacrificially and let us be praying for them!

Pulpit Supply: The Consistory has arranged pulpit supply for tonight and next Sunday night in order to provide our Pastor some relief due to the additional labors he has had to perform in recent weeks.  Rev. N. Brummel will preach for us tonight and Rev. S. Houck will bring God’s Word next Sunday evening.

Thanksgiving to God: We thank God for granting to Fred Iwema what looks like a successful back surgery this past week.  The surgery was long, the pain intense, and though our brother was discharged from the hospital on Friday, he will be needing lots of rest (6-8 weeks).   Let us continue to remember him(as well as Rose, and the rest of the family) during this time of recovery. “But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for Himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto Him.” Psalm 4:3

Wedding Bells Ringing: Justus Van Der Walt and Michelle Morley will be joined together in marriage this Saturday, May 17, 2008 here at Bethel PRC at 10:00 a.m.  Their new address: 1136 Knollwood Dr. Apt. B Schaumburg, IL  60194.  We wish them the Lord’s blessings on their marriage and honeymoon!

Helping Hands Survey: A survey prepared by our newly organized Helping Hands is being distributed with our bulletins today. Please prayerfully consider how you can contribute to these various needs in our church and pass on your completed survey to Lavonne Jansen either this week or next week.

Pictures Needed: Bethel will be giving a presentation at the Missions Awareness Day to be held in Georgetown PRC on June 14, 2008.  We are in need of pictures!  If you have pictures of recent events

(Christmas Chapel at Alexian, Multicultural Event, Discipleship Training at Cool Mirchi, etc.) please get them to Eric Olsson by the end of the month at the latest.   Thanks!

Church Library: The Book and Resource Committee is still in the process of cataloguing our library books and is extending the return deadline to May 18.  There is a box in the back of church for you to return borrowed books.  The Committee is also extending the date when you may begin re-borrowing books to June 1, 2008.  All library books will have a card to be filled out and placed in an envelope in the counsel room upon check out.  Once the cataloging is ready, books can be borrowed for up to one month, and if renewal is needed, please see our librarian, Tim Stein.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Church Picnic: Have you marked your calendars for July 26, 2008 for our church picnic? We have reserved the pavilion at Turner Park on Roselle Road and we are excitedly working out all the details.  We are also looking for volunteers. If you are willing to help organize this picnic, please let Pastor know or simply indicate your interest in the survey form the Helping Hands is passing out today.

Bethel’s Canoe Trip: We now have all thirty-six spots filled for our canoe trip August 4-9!  If you have registered, please note that the rest of the fees ($375 minus the $100 deposit) should be mailed in before June 15, 2008.  In the meantime, all participants should look out for a package in the mail with full details, consent forms, list of items to bring (and not to bring) etc.  Start getting in shape to canoe!

Hope for Myanmar: As you know from news reports in this past week, a devastating cyclone has struck the country of Myanmar.  The Yangon congregation of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.  The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM this past week and is keeping in close contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to be sent as the situation unfolds.  We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect will.

PR Ministers’ Fellowship: Our Chicago-land PR ministers will be meeting this Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. for a time of fellowship and mutual encouragement in the work of the ministry in our churches.

Classis East: Our Pastor will be serving as one of the delegates ad examina at the Classis East meeting scheduled for May 14, 2008.  The agenda includes the request of Faith PRC for the organization of a daughter congregation and the request of Grace PRC for the dismissal of her Pastor under Art. 11.

Calvary PRC: Calvary PRC (Hull, IA) has called Rev. Doug Kuiper to be their first pastor.  Let us remember him in our prayers as he waits on the Lord for His bidding whether to stay or to go.
Philippines:
Rev. Spriensma and Rev. Bill Langerak will be leaving for the Philippines this coming Monday. Besides preaching for the Berean Prot. Ref. Church of the Philippines, they plan for the celebration of the Lord's Supper, visit the church extension work in Gabaldon, and meet with the Bastion of Truth Reformed Church pastors. Pastor Spriensma will be with Pastor Langerak for ten days, and then Rev. Langerak's wife, Karen, will join him as they consider the call extended to him to serve as our denomination’s foreign missionary to labor in the Philippines.

Singapore Visit: Rev. K. Koole and Rev. C. Haak will be returning on the morrow, the Lord willing, from Singapore.  Let us remember to pray for their safe return.

Newsletters: Instead of placing several letters we have received from RWH, DMC and AIMs on the back table, we are handing them out today after the morning service.  We encourage the congregation to read, be kept informed, and lend support as much as possible to these worthy denominational causes.
