Today
is Pentecost Sunday, the day we remember the Gift of His Spirit that the
ascended Christ poured out upon His New Testament Church.
The
evening service is preparatory with a view to celebrating the Lord’s Supper
next Sunday morning.
The
Consistory will meet Monday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Rev.
W. Langerak received the call to the Philippines. Rev. Langerak plans to answer the call to the
Philippines on June 8. Please remember
him in your prayers.
Due to the cancellation of the Ascension Day service, the Berean Building Fund collection and the Beacon Lights collection have been moved to Christmas. Please update your schedules accordingly.
From
the pamphlet committee: There are several copies of a new pamphlet in our
pamphlet rack. It is entitled "The Antithesis: Godly Living in Ungodly
Times." Among other things, it addresses technology and the internet.
We suggest you pick one up. If necessary, we will order more.
Rev.
Overway needs to attend Classis East this week as a delegate ad examina
together with Rev. Kuiper and Rev. Mahtani. These delegates function as
representatives of Synod and are chosen from Classis West to attend meetings of
Classis East at which weighty decisions are anticipated which directly affect
the denomination as a whole. The delegates ad examina give their
approval/disapproval to these decisions of Classis.
Due
to Rev. Overway being gone at Classis this week, Rev. Overway and Rev. Key will
switch pulpits next week Sunday evening.
Rev.
Bill Langerak and Rev. Spriensma will be leaving for the
Philippines tomorrow. Besides preaching for the Berean Prot. Ref. Church
of the Philippines, they plan for the celebraton of the Lord's
Supper, visiting the church extension work in Gabaldon, and meeting with the
Bastion of Truth Reformed Church pastors. Pastor Spriensma will be with Pastor
Langerak for ten days, and then Rev. Langerak's wife, Karen, will join him
as they consider the call extended to them to work in the Philippines. Rev.
Langerak and his wife plan to return to the States on May 28. Let's remember to
pray for them in their travels and in their work.
Denominational News
Classis East will meet this Wednesday at 8am at First
Holland PRC. The agenda is weighty, including: a request from Faith PRC to
organize a daughter congregation, 5 protests against the decisions of the
previous Classis, an appeal against a consistory, and a request from Grace PRC
for the release of their pastor under art. 11 of the Church Order. Please
remember the delegates of Classis and the Grace PRC in your prayers.
Calvary
PRC has extended a call to Rev. Doug Kuiper from Randolph. Rev. Kuiper plans to answer on May 25.
Rev.
Haak and Rev. Koole plan to return home from
Singapore tomorrow.
From the Council of Hope PRC (Grand Rapids, MI): As you
know from news reports in this past week, a devastating cyclone has struck the
country of Myanmar. The
Yangon congregation
of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly
hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families
had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home
damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no
electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.
The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in
Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM this past week and is keeping
in close contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to
be sent as the situation unfolds. We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our
Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect will.
