OUR CHURCH IN FELLOWSHIP

We welcome all visitors worshiping with us today.  It is our prayer that the Lord will bless and strengthen us by the preaching of His Word this Sabbath Day. Prof. H. Hanko will be preaching for us this evening. We welcome him to our pulpit and fellowship.

Today we celebrate Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, Whom He sent to abide with us forever (John 14:16).  This morning is also preparatory for the sacrament of the Lord's Supper, which will be administered next Sunday morning, the Lord willing.

The regular council and consistory meetings will be held this Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 PM.

Our sick: Mrs. Jill Elzinga submitted to knee surgery this past week to have some torn cartilage repaired.  The surgery went well, and Jill is recovering at home. Mrs. Anne Prince was admitted to Blodgett Hospital this past week with blood clots in her legs.  Tests showed that the blood clots were not new, so Mrs. Prince was able to return to Brookcrest. Mrs. Barb Bol will submit to emergency outpatient surgery this week Tuesday in order to remove a cyst from her retina. Please continue to remember in prayer those of the congregation whose needs are known as well as others who experience unknown difficulties.

Jon and Katie VanOverloop were blessed with the birth of a baby boy, Joel Levi, on Friday morning.  Mother and son are both doing well.  "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Psalm 127:3.

We express our Christian sympathy to Jason and Tammi Scholten and family in the death of Tammi's aunt, Carol Miedema.  The funeral was held this past Friday.

All mothers of preschoolers intending to send their children to Sunday School, meet in the catechism room after the morning worship service.

The young people thank all those who came to the pancake breakfast and car wash yesterday.  Your continued support is much appreciated!

Richard and Marcia Flikkema, Tammy and Dan McHugh, Tricia and Mike Brummel, Heidi and Joe Kleyn would like to thank the congregation for their prayers, cards and expressions of sympathy in the passing to glory of their beloved father and grandfather.  "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  Ps. 121:1,2

The Smit family would like to sincerely thank the congregation for all their thoughts, prayers, cards, meals and goodies following Faith’s recent hospital stay. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His Name.”  Psalm 100:4

The young people are invited to Rev. & Stephanie Lanning's house on May 23. We hope to see you there for an evening of fellowship and games.

Attention Young People: The registration deadline for the 2008 Young People's Convention is this week Thursday. You still have time to send in your registration forms if you are planning on attending this year's convention.  Space is limited, so register soon!  We MUST have all forms in by May 15.  We look forward to seeing you there!

DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

Classis East will convene this week Wednesday in Holland PRC at 8:00 AM for its regular May meeting.  The first new item of business will be the request of Faith's daughter congregation to organize.  All are welcome to attend classis and observe these deliberations having to do with our congregation.  The rest of the agenda is lengthy and includes five protests against the previous work of classis, as well as an appeal of a member against a consistory.  May God give the delegates wisdom to do His will.

Rev. Spriensma and Rev. Bill Langerak will be leaving for the Philippines this coming Monday. Besides preaching for the Berean Prot. Ref. Church of the Philippines, they plan to celebrate the Lord's Supper with the saints, to visit the church extension work in Gabaldon, and to meet with the Bastion of Truth Reformed Church pastors. Pastor Spriensma will be with Pastor Langerak for ten days, and then Rev. Langerak's wife, Karen, will join him as they consider the call extended to Rev. Langerak to work in the Philippines.

From the Council of Hope PRC (Grand Rapids, MI):  As you know from news reports in this past week, a devastating cyclone has struck the country of Myanmar.  The Yangon congregation of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.  The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM this past week and is keeping in close contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to be sent as the situation unfolds.  We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect will.
