CONGREGATIONAL
ANNOUNCEMENTS
“Make a joyful
noise unto the LORD, all ye lands, Serve the LORD with gladness. Come before His presence with singing.” Today is Pentecost Sunday, the day we remember the
blessing of Christ pouring out his Spirit upon His Church.
Consistory
approved the request of Jeff Westra for the baptism
of Jeff & Nicki's daughter, Jayden Joy. Baptism will take place next week Sunday morning,
the Lord willing.
With
gratitude to God, the Consistory approved the confessions of faith of John
Gustafson and Justin Warner. If there are no lawful objections to their
confession, their public confession of faith will take place on June 1 in the
morning, the Lord willing. We thank God for this evidence of His covenant
faithfulness to these families and to our church.
Dr.
Eric Gustafson has experienced a good measure of relief from his pain and
was able to return to work on Friday. He is still doing physical therapy
and is considering yet the possibility of surgery.
Mr.
Les Haveman's recovery from his stroke continues to
go well. The Lord willing, he will be able to return to work this
week. We thank our heavenly Father for His goodness and care.
Mrs.
Barb Cammenga has been feeling much better. She
is still receiving pain medications, but has regained strength and is
able to get around and do things again. We thank the Lord for His
blessings.
Mr.
Harvey Jongekrijg was admitted to the hospital this
past Thursday due to pain caused by troubles with
his prostate. He was able to return home on Friday and is being
treated through medication. Let's remember the Jongekrijgs
in their trials and needs.
The Secret Pal Revealing Party will be tomorrow
evening at 6:30 p.m. Please let Audrey or Leesa know
today if you can bring an appetizer, dessert or pop. Also, be sure to pick up
an information sheet from the narthex table.
New members are welcome! Come
join us!
Classis
East will be meeting on Wednesday here in our
church. Delegates from our consistory are our pastor and Elder Wes Koops. Classis has a lengthy and weighty agenda,
which includes the request of Faith PRC's daughter to
organize, 5 protests against previous decisions of classis, and one
appeal. May God give wisdom and grace to the delegates in their work.
The
Lord's Supper in June will be a week later, on June 22, because our pastor is a
delegate to Synod.
From the Kitchen Committee: A sign-up sheet has
been posted on the bulletin board for the Parade of Homes, June 12 - 21.
Please help support our church and fill a 3-hour time slot (or two).
Some
ladies are planning a brunch for our congregation at Helder
Park on Monday, June 9, at 9 in the morning. Everyone is
invited. Bring something to pass and a lawn chair and come to enjoy the
fellowship! Drinks will be supplied.
CHURCH NEWS
•From the Council of Hope PRC (Grand Rapids, MI): As you
know from news reports in this past week, a devastating cyclone has struck the
country of Myanmar. The Yangon congregation of the Protestant
Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly hard. While no
members were seriously injured, three families had their homes destroyed
and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home damaged. The conditions
in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no electricity, widespread
destruction, as well as food and water shortages. The Hope Council, using
a special fund created to help the saints in Myanmar, sent emergency aid
to the PRCM this past week and is keeping in close contact with Rev. Titus
to determine how much more help will have to be sent as the situation
unfolds. We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our Heavenly
Father who works all things according to His perfect will.
•While
Rev. William Langerak is considering the call to the
Philippines, he plans to visit the field. He will be leaving tomorrow,
the Lord willing, for two weeks, with Rev. Spriensma
initially accompanying him, and then his wife Karen joining him there. We
keep them in our prayers.
•We
continue to remember in prayer the delegation of Rev. Haak
and Rev. Koole visiting the Covenant Evangelical Reformed Church in
Singapore. They plan to return home tomorrow, the Lord willing.
•Rev. Doug Kuiper plans to answer the call to Calvary PRC on May 25.
