Congregational Announcements
Pentecost: This morning, we
celebrate the pouring out of the Spirit on the Church. We pray that God’s Spirit might dwell with us
and in us, guiding, leading, strengthening, and encouraging us in our daily
walk with the Lord. “And I will put my
Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my
judgments, and do them.” (Ezekiel 36:27)
Confession of Faith: Sean Vander Meulen appeared before the Consistory and
made a good confession of his faith in Christ and a clear testimony of His work
in his life. The Consistory joyfully
accepted his confession and has scheduled his public confession for next week
Sunday morning, May 18. We rejoice in
humble gratitude for this evidence of the work of God’s Spirit among us!
Sunday School Administration/Teacher: We are in need of a new Sunday School
Administrator and teacher. Please contact John Heystek if you are interested.
Our
Church Family

blessed with the birth of a son, Blayden Andrew, this past Tuesday. Please pray for Brantley and Tessa and the
new baby.
Pat Sheldon is scheduled for surgery this
week Tuesday, May 13. She will be in the hospital for about a half a day.
Please pray for Bruce and Pat and their family.
Remember the Kelley’s in your prayers as
Mrs. Kelley has been unable to worship with us of late.
Pray for Mrs. Kuiper and her family as she
continues her cancer treatments.
As we pray for each other and care for each
other in the body of Christ, may we heed this Word of the Lord: “Seek the Lord
and his strength, seek his face continually.”
(I Cor. 16:11)
“We thank you all for being present on
Sunday, April 20, celebrating with us our 50th anniversary. For us it is beautiful that we are able to do
that in the midst of God’s people. Psalm
92:1: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises
unto thy name, O most High.” Mr. and
Mrs. VanderLei

Church News
Call: Doon PRC (IA) has called Rev. W. Langerak
to be missionary to the Philippines.
Call: Calvary PRC (IA) has called
Rev. D. Kuiper to be their first pastor.
From Classis East: Classis East
meets this week Wednesday, May 14, at First PRC of Holland, MI.
From the Council of Hope PRC (Grand
Rapids, MI): As you know from news reports in this past week, a devastating
cyclone has struck the country of Myanmar. The Yangon congregation of the
Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly hard. While no
members were seriously injured, three families had their homes destroyed and
Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home damaged. The conditions in
Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no electricity, widespread
destruction, as well as food and water shortages. The Hope Council, using a
special fund created to help the saints in Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the
PRCM this past week and is keeping in close contact with Rev. Titus to
determine how much more help will have to be sent as the situation unfolds. We
commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our Heavenly Father who works all
things according to His perfect will.
Quotes to Consider
The Spirit’s Work: “Progressive sanctification very much involves our
activity. But it is an activity that must be carried out in dependence on the
Holy Spirit. It is not a partnership with the Spirit in the sense that we each
– the believer and the Holy Spirit – do our respective tasks. Rather, we work
as He enables us to work. His work lies behind all our work and makes our work
possible… He is not dependent on us to do His work. But we are dependent on Him
to do our work; we cannot do anything apart from Him.” -J. Bridges
A High Calling: “Nothing
can replace the training of a Christian mother. It is of the most profound
significance in the purposes of God. Your children follow you as you are in the
house. They look upon you. And they follow your faith. That is the great
calling of a Christian mother. ...Young
girls, this is the high calling. This is the greatest calling on earth— to be
entrusted with Christ’s little ones. Take this calling seriously and the Lord
will give you all the satisfaction of your heart. Someday, mothers, the fruit
will be reaped by Jesus Christ. We cannot always see that fruit right now. But
some day that fruit is going to be reaped. And you shall enter into the
presence of your Lord, rejoicing in the harvest and thanking Him for the
privilege of rearing His children.” -C.
Haak
Holy Service: “Serve God by doing common actions in a heavenly spirit, and then, if your daily calling only leaves you cracks and crevices of time, fill them up with holy service.” -C. Spurgeon
Our Speech: “We ought to
"consider one another to provoke to love and good works." We ought to
"exhort" and "edify one another." (Heb. 10:24; 1 Thes.
5:11.) Have we no time for spiritual conversation? Let us think again. The
quantity of time wasted on frivolous, trifling, and unprofitable talk, is
fearfully great. Do we find nothing to say on spiritual subjects? Do we feel
tongue-tied and speechless on the things of Christ? Surely if this is the case,
there must be something wrong within. A heart right in the sight of God will
generally find words. "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth
speaks." (Matt. 12:34.)” -J. Ryle
“Wants”: “No one is really happy merely because he has what he
wants, but only if he wants things he ought to want.” -Augustine
At Peace? “What! At peace
with the Father, and at war with His children? It cannot be.” -J. Flavel
