News From Our Churches:

From the Council of Hope PRC (Grand Rapids, MI):  As you know from news reports in this past week, a devastating cyclone has struck the country of Myanmar.  The Yangon congregation of the Protestant Reformed Churches of Myanmar was hit particularly hard. While no members were seriously injured, three families had their homes destroyed and Rev. Titus, our contact in the PRCM, had his home damaged. The conditions in Myanmar at present are very difficult, with no electricity, widespread destruction, as well as food and water shortages.  The Hope Council, using a special fund created to help the saints in Myanmar, sent emergency aid to the PRCM this past week and is keeping in close contact with Rev. Titus to determine how much more help will have to be sent as the situation unfolds.  We commit the needs of the saints in Myanmar to our Heavenly Father who works all things according to His perfect will.

Rev. Spriensma and Rev. Bill Langerak will be leaving for the Philippines this coming Monday. Besides preaching for the Berean Prot. Ref. Church of the Philippines, they will plan for the celebration of the Lord's Supper, visit the church extension work in Gabaldon, and meet with the Bastion of Truth Reformed Church pastors. Pastor Spriensma will be with Pastor Langerak for ten days, and then Rev. Langerak's wife, Karen, will join him as they consider the call extended to them to work in the Philippines.

Rev. Doug Kuiper (Randolph, WI) considers the call from Calvary PRC.

The Contact Committee's delegation of Revs. Koole & Haak are visiting Covenant ERC in Singapore.  Let us pray for their safe return tomorrow.

Classis East meets this Wednesday at its regular session in May.  Let us pray for God's blessing & guidance for the delegates as they face many weighty protests/appeals.

Requested Announcements:

The Free Christian School in Edgerton, MN is in urgent need of a teacher for grades 4-8 for the 2008-09 school year. Please contact Glenn Gunnink (507) 227-4019 or (507)442-3095 or Jeff Baker (507)631-6653 for more information.

Food for Thought

“Earnest Christians seeking guidance often go wrong.  …Their basic mistake is to think of guidance as essentially inward prompting by the Holy Spirit, apart from the written Word. …(But) the Spirit leads within the limits the Word sets, not beyond them.  “He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness” (Psalm 23:3) - but not anywhere else.”                       J. Packer

“Helper was not a position for Eve to fight, but a function for her to fulfill. It is God’s design, bearing His fingerprints for His glory and our good, a design we tamper with at our peril. As the man delighted in the woman, so also she delighted in her calling and fully embraced it… ”          R. Phillips

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit; I believe in an holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting life: AMEN
