PRC and Sister-Church News Highlights for December 22, 2024 *(Updated)

Contents[Show]

Isaiah 9 2Today, December 22, is the fifty-first Lord's Day of this year of our Lord 2024, and another rest stop on our pilgrim journey through this world. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Below you will find special highlights of PRC and sister-church news. It is our hope that these reports not only inform you but also give you opportunity to pray for the needs of these churches and mission fields throughout the world.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. ...For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. ~ Isaiah 9:6,7

If you are new to this website and the PRCA, we invite you to join us in worship today or on any of the Sunday's of this year at one of our local congregations near you; or you may listen online through one of the PRC's livestreams.

SISTER-CHURCH/MISSION NEWS:

  • Covenant ERC, Singapore and her Kolkata, India mission work:
    • Pastors J. Tan and M. Wee are faithfully serving the CERC. Today both pastors led services. This week's "pastor's voice" included a follow-up note on the youth camp that was held last weekend on "Our Antithetical Fight Against Brain “Rot,” based on Psalm 101:3, and it is fitting for all of us: "Dear youth, continue to apply what you have learned during the camp! Hopefully you have resisted the temptation to engage in “revenge post-camp scrolling” (spending excessive time on our devices to make up for the lack of use during camp – an invented word), have prepared ourselves for worship (one of the godly habits that we were encouraged to cultivate in our fight against brain rot), and are resolved to devote this Sabbath day in both the public and private worship of God. And may that serve as a foundation upon which we go into the week, resolved to use our devices with conscious Christian intentionality. May we grow in our godly resolve to live the antithesis, by the power of Christ in us. Psalm 101:2: 'I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.'”

This Week's Thought for Contemplation

“Just at the moment when his [Joseph's] soul was heavy with these thoughts, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, exhorting him not to do this contemplated thing; saying unto him: “Fear not to take unto thee Mary to be thy wife; for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Ghost.” This should allay all his fear. And in our text besides being informed that she shall surely have a Son, he is commanded to call His Name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.

"Jesus, Saviour!

"No more fitting theme for meditation in this season in which we celebrate the Saviour’s birth! Theologically these words contain profound truths. Practically there lies hidden in them the faith and hope of many hearts. The Apostle Paul puts it this way: “It is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners! ”

"That’s what Christmas is all about! Yet, in the midst of all the tinsel, bell-ringing, and frivolity, this is precisely what is forgotten in our modern manner of celebration. O, indeed, there is room for joy and thanksgiving on this occasion. For did not the angel say: “Behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people”? But remember, that joy rests only on the fact that we rejoice in the fact that He Whose birth we celebrate is the Saviour from sin!

"He shall save His people from their sins!

Taken from a Standard Bearer article by Marinus Schipper (former PRC minister) "Jesus-Savior" based on Matthew 1:21
