FEATURED Pamphlet!
UPON WHAT DOES YOUR FAITH STAND?
By Rev Angus Stewart

In this 3-part series, we consider Faith!

In 1 Corinthians 2:5, the Holy Scripture warns that "your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men". "Wisdom of men" may include human philosophy, rational proofs or human testimonies.

Rather, true faith stands in "the power of God", resting upon God and His Word alone. The inward working of the Holy Spirit convicts us of the infallibility and authority of Scripture.

This truth about faith also establishes the importance of preaching. It is not debates, philosophies or arguments that create faith. It is the Holy Spirit which works faith in us through the preaching of the gospel - the gospel which testifies powerfully that in Christ, God has reconciled the world unto Himself (II Cor. 5:19) and that believers have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Is your faith standing firm in the power of God?

Christianizing the World by Prof David Engelsma
From the RFPA website:

This book is a critique of Abraham Kuyper’s cultural theory of a common grace of God and of the grandiose mission of this grace, and of those who confess the theory and evidently intend to promote it so that it accomplishes the end Kuyper claimed. The book exposes Kuyper’s biblical basis for his theory and its practical mission.

The first and main part of the book is a much-expanded version of the public lecture given in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2014 under the auspices of the evangelism society of Southwest Protestant Reformed Church in Wyoming, Michigan. The second part of the book consists of questions raised by the audience at the conclusion of the lecture and of the answers by the speaker at the lecture.

ABIDING IN OUR CALLING
By Rev Angus Stewart

This pamphlet is a four-part series on I Corinthians 7:17-24, which deals with the topic of our calling.

The first part speaks about our effectual call, election. The second speaks about our earthly calling, vocation. The third speaks about the calling of servants and how we were bought with a price, Christ's blood. Lastly, article four reminds us "that Christian contentment does not rest upon favourable external circumstances but upon faith in the goodness and providence of God."

An excellent read for all Christians in our various callings in life. Let us seek to use our callings for the service of God and the church!

Once again the "SS" is filled with interesting and edifying articles, and our PRC young people especially are invited and encouraged to read it.

Dear Readers,

We are pleased to bring you Issue 37 of Salt Shakers! Though various circumstances caused the delay of this issue from March to April, we are conscious of the grace of our Lord in sustaining the work of this Reformed magazine. Due to the delay, we will be on track to publish Issue 38 only in July. We thank our readers for their patience and covet your continued prayers for the work.

As Reformed young people, we love our magazine. As always, we trust that God will use these feeble and imperfect works for the edification of many.

Soli Deo Gloria, Chua Lee Yang

A FATHER'S PITY
By Rev Jason Kortering

"Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust."Psalms 103:13, 14

No one wants pity. Everybody wants respect! However, within the household of faith, pity is a good thing. It is Divine!

Pity is to feel the pain of others, weeping with those who weep. It is the bridge between justice and mercy.  God in His justice punishes the wicked and sin, but God is also merciful and gracious towards His people and removes their transgression by the blood of His own Son.

The love and compassion of an earthly father is a reflection of our Father in heaven. May we be humbled and touched by His love and grace.

Have a read!

We rejoice with Zong Jie and Julia in their union, and pray God's blessings upon them as they set up their covenant home, marking another chapter in the good life...

Ps 128

1 Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.

2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.

5 The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.

REPROBATION AND GOD'S GOOD PLEASURE
By Prof Herman Hanko

Question: "If God is always saddened by sin and His just wrath always expressed against it, can we still say that His eternal condemnation of reprobate sinners is part of His good pleasure?"

Is it possible for God to damn the reprobate according to His good pleasure and yet be saddened by their unbelief?

"..defenders of the well-meant gospel offer teach God’s love for all men and His desire to save them, because Christ wept over the sin of the nation of Israel. The weeping of Jesus is, therefore, the disappointment the Lord experiences that the nation rejected and spurned His love and turned away in disgust from His gracious expressions of His desire to save them. The sorrow is evidence of the frustrations of His desire: He wanted to save them, but failed." Can Christ fail? NO!

"One may claim that this is hard to understand. I agree. At that point where God’s will touches the will of man in such a way that God’s will is accomplished and man remains accountable before God, we confront a great and wonderful work of God that is beyond our understanding."

God is sovereign—not only in electing some to everlasting blessedness in Christ, but also rejecting others according to His own sovereign determination.

Read this pamphlet to learn more of God's sovereign work of reprobation.
